​Shakespeare in London Walking Tour

​William Shakespeare’s life may have begun in Stratford-Upon-Avon, but it was in London where he spent the greatest part of his life, giving us an extraordinary legacy and enriching our language like nobody else. We will walk in the footsteps of the Bard as we seek the locations which inspired his plays:  

Highlights include:

• The site of the Gatehouse he bought on 10th March 1613
• The burial site of Heminge & Condell, without whom we would have no Shakespeare plays.
• The last galleried Inn in London where once upon a time actors would perform on stage.
• A walk around Bankside an area once upon a time, full of playhouses, prostitutes and pubs.
• Southwark Cathedral where Shakespeare would have visited and his brother in buried. 
• The remains of the Rose Theatre preserved underneath an office block, discovered in 1989.
• The original site of the Globe Theatre.
• The Globe Theatre: the reconstruction of the original built in 1997

Why not book?

Make it a real Shakespeare day, and following the walking tour with your Blue Badge Guide, you might wish to  book one of the following: 

• The Exhibition at The Globe which is open every day.
• From April to September we can  book a performance at the Globe for you choosing either to sit down or to stand as a 'groundling'. 
• From October to April, you may choose to see a performance by candlelight in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse which is the closest we have to the indoor playhouses where Shakespeare's company performed during the winter months.
