A Christopher Walking Tour of the City of London
Astronomer, scientist, mathematician, inventor; we know him as the architect who changed the London skyline for ever. Come and learn about the life and work of this extraordinary man and we will examine some of the 51 churches he built. His masterpiece, St Paul's Cathedral is a work of genius constructed in just 35 years. On this tour we will visit some of the following churches, some of which will be inside visits depending on opening times, your schedule and the day of the week chosen.
A lovely idea is to do the Christopher Wren walking tour in the morning, with an inside visit to St Paul’s in the afternoon to make a real day of it.
- St Margaret Pattens – hear about the unusual trade of the Pattenmakers.
- Christchurch Greyfriars – a long history, a rose garden, a burial place for English and Scottish Queens, the remains of this Wren church have a fascinating story to tell.
- St Mary-le-Bow – this church is known as the ‘cockney’ church but how is it connected to the United States of America?
- St Mary Aldermary – an unusual Gothic style church with amazing plasterwork ceilings.
- St James Garlickhythe – its high ceilings have given it the nickname ‘Wren’s lantern.”
