It takes just 20 minutes to reach Greenwich by DLR, riverboat or train and makes for a great day out. A World Heritage Site and the home of Britain's maritime history, there is enough to occupy the whole family. Greenwich has long been associated with its royal and naval connections and truly has a plethora of museums and activities which could easily fill 2 days. - The Cutty Sark, a 19th century tea clipper which at one time was the fastest of its kind and today is a fantastic museum.
- The National Maritime Museum holds a comprehensive collection of Britain's naval history
- Gaze at the stars at the Royal Observatory and visit the Meridian Line which straddles both East and West hemispheres.
- The Queen’s House, designed by Inigo Jones, houses 400 years worth of artistic treasures
- The Painted Hall at the Royal Naval College is also worth visiting.
- Wander around Greenwich Market, an arts and craft market dating back to the 1830s
- A stroll through Greenwich Park, London’s oldest Royal Park is wonderful and the views from the top of the hill are world famous.
- If you have a good couple of hours to spare, it is well worth taking a trip over (15min cab drive) to Eltham Palace, where Henry VIII lived as a child in the 16th century but was converted into the most eccentric of Art Deco homes during the 1930s.
- Just outside Greenwich, the Emirates Airline runs a cable car which spans the river Thames from the London Docks to the 02 music Arena with spectacular views.
- Not for the faint-hearted is the opportunity to climb the 02 arena dome, an experience which lasts 90 minutes and with 360 degree views of London which must be booked in advance (Minimum Age 9).
